Why He’s a Legend.
By Ramon Mendez
Among the many legendry guitarists there is Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, which through my eyes is the Greatest, but what has he done?
Who is Jimmy page and why is he important? Well Jimmy Page is the guitarist for one of the most influential rock bands ever Led Zeppelin. With a career over 46 years long, and still strong.
Page started off in a band called The Yardbirds, which respectfully is also one of the most influential bands in classic rock because it started the careers of Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck. After The Yardbirds Page went on and formed “The” greatest rock band ever Led Zeppelin in 1968. Page would stay with Zeppelin till 1980 when the drummer of the band John Bonham died of alcohol poisoning. During these 12 years together Zeppelin produced 9 studio albums and during this time that page is really recognized in the music industry as being influential to musicians of many genres.
Besides being influential he is also and an innovator in the art of playing guitar, because he popularized the long but also satisfying guitar solo and his improvised way of stroking inspired many guitarist such as Eddie Van Halen and Johnny Ramone.
Page is also a inspiration to some of the students at school for example Jerry Munoz a, Senior at South East High School says “I think Page is an important factor in music because he sets examples for other guitarist in different genres, and he’s an awesome player”, and Munoz is a guitar player himself.
After Zeppelin broke up in December of 1980 page would go on to produce more music by himself and with other musicians, such as with Zeppelin’s singer Robert Plant they would collaborate again in 84’ in the band The Honeydrippers. After The Honeydrippers Page released two albums with Paul Rodgers from Bad Company under the name The Firm.
After the firm Page continued to do collaborate with many artist and I think his most notable failure was when he did a song with Diddy at the time know as “Puff Daddy” called “Come With Me” which heavily sampled the Zeppelin song “Kashmir”. Although I think it was a failure many people think otherwise such as Stephanie Guevara a Junior at SEHS who said, “she said I respect because he’s an amazing guitarist and musician and I still like his music even though I like other genres of music” which I think that proves he is respected by people who haven’t heard of his Zeppelin work
And as time progresses I think people being to discover his music like Michael Serrano a Sophomore at SEHS says, “well what I’ve heard he is pretty legendry I can’t argue with that, and although I don’t really listen to Zeppelin much. He is still respectfully a god at what he does. That says it all, and Jimmy Page just released a documentary about the history of the guitar so his career is still going strong. And Last I want to explain why I’m talking about James Patrick Page well he just turned 66 on January 9th, he was born in 1944.
*please note that these are my and other people’s opinions, and if I forgot anything I’m sorry.
